Sound Awake — sound art, performance and exploration

Sound Awake is the sound art project of Joseph Yiannakou, exploring the intersections of sound, nature, technology and human perception. Blending sound art, performance and therapeutic sound practices, Joseph creates layered sonic experiences that invite audiences to listen differently, engage their imagination and explore the relationship between sound and our inner worlds.

Trained in sound therapy and holistic voice work at the British Academy of Sound Therapy, Joseph brings together a background in therapeutic practice with an ongoing exploration of sound as an artistic medium. His work incorporates instruments such as gongs, crystal singing bowls and percussion, alongside voice, electronic composition and experimental approaches to sound-making.

His practice also explores the meeting point between organic and technological systems, including the use of plant bio-rhythm data converted into MIDI as a compositional tool.

With an expanding interest in presenting work in galleries and alternative spaces, Sound Awake considers how sound, environment and visual elements can shape the way we listen and experience a place. Each project responds to its own context, creating opportunities for attentive listening, curiosity and a deeper engagement with the world around us.
